Renaming devices/interfaces not showing up in NPM

Hi all,

When I rename a hostname of a switch or port that is being monitored by NPM, it doesn't detect the change and I have to change it manually which is a PITA. We are doing a network upgrade with a new hostname scheme and I was hoping that maybe I didn't check something off in settings to have it automatically detect the change and update the page for that device.

Yes I searched by "renaming hostname" with no luck so thats why I asked.

what happens when you do a rediscover now??

Nothing happens, the old name stays the same and I have to manually update it. I have left devices over a few days period to see if it changes and nothing.

It has never worked for us.

Typical scenario....

NPM has device XYZ

NCM has device XYZ

Map has YXZ.

Business says to change the name to abc.

Delete XYZ Node from NPM

Delete XYZ node from NCM

Run Orion Import to NCM to import device ABC

Delete XYZ Node from map

Refresh Atlast Map Maker

Add new ABC device

Redraw all of the links which go away after you manually build your maps.

Its been a pain since we deployed. You CAN go into NCM and chage the drop down to $Sysname, which will correct it in NCM, but it will not reflect properly anywhere else.
