I would like to know, why there was the following statement about hostnames included in Orion's v9 release notes?
"
Special Characters in Machine Names
Due to limitations based on RFC 952 - DOD Internet Host Table Specification that are maintained by Windows Internet Information Services (IIS), the machine names of monitored network devices may only be composed of the following:
- Alphabetic characters (
a-z or A-Z, case-insensitive) - Digits (
0-9) - Minus sign (
-) - Period (
.)
"
Were there any performance issues or something else?
For historical reasons we have hostnames with underscores and they are bundled in VPN certificates, so it is pain to rename.
