Orion NPM Upgrade

I am about to upgrade from Orion NPM SL2000 to SLX. I am also installing the Net flow applet on the same server.

My question is what should I be looking at for drive space, memory, and processor speeds to accommodate both?

I currently have the SL2000 with no other add-ons installed on a Dell Power Edge 1855 with the following specs.

Memory: 4 GB

Processor: Xeon 2.8 GHz

Drive Space: 46 GB

In most cases, you should be OK with the same hardware when upgrading from the SL2000 to the SLX. However, as with most things in life, the devil is in the details so I'd need to know a few other things to say for sure:

a) Is it a single 2.8 Ghz processor? If so, does it support hyper-threading?

b) Are you using any other Orion modules besides NetFlow?

c) About how many additional interfaces/devices do you plan to monitor above the 2000?

d) How many Netflow sources/interfaces will you have and what is their average speed?

e) Is SQL on a separate server?

f) Assuming the answer to "e" is "yes", then what are the specs on the SQL box?

- Its a dual processor server capable of hyper-threading although the hyper-threading feature is disabled.

b) Are you using any other Orion modules besides NetFlow?

- No, Other the Orion SLX itself, Net Flow is the only other modules I am using

c) About how many additional interfaces/devices do you plan to monitor above the 2000?

- We currently have almost 1900 interfaces and 230 devices connected to Orion. A rough guess would be an additional 1000 interfaces and 300 devices.

d) How many Netflow sources/interfaces will you have and what is their average speed?

- Roughly 200 average speed is 1.4 Mbps.

e) Is SQL on a separate server?

- No, SQL is on the same server although we have the option to move the database over to a SAN.

Another question to this is since I already have SL2000 installed do I actually have to uninstall the SL2000 version in order to install the SLX version?
