I setup a SNMP server, then there are alerts coming into my mail box when nodes are up or down. I haven't configured an alert yet. Anyone know what happening to my Solarwinds. Thanks.
benzhang, I think you mean you setup an SMTP server (not SNMP server) from the Settings > Initial Alerting Setup section. If so, yes, this is expected behavior. The alerts can be managed from Settings > Manage Alerts where you can define your own email actions. You can also disable the out of the box alerts, and clone the out of the box ones to modify to your requirments
There is a tutorial on Alerting specifically here

You are right. I only setup email serer from setting>Manage SMTP Servers>Add SMTP server and then Mark this server as default. After that, I got email coming into my mailbox when nodes are up or down. Actually, I want to control which nodes or groups need to send email out. Could you give clue how to stop those email? Then I can setup my owner alerts. Thanks
Like HolyGuacamole said from settings got manage alerts once there you will see some alerts with a green on just turn off all the alerts until you are ready to make your own.
