Migration time and I need some advice

New server: 2 Quad core Xeon E5520 CPU, 32GB RAM.

Question: I have a new copy of Windows Server 2008 32/64 bit. Does the 64 bit version play well with all components; SQL Server 2008, NPM 9.5, NCM 5.5, Engineers Toolkit, Pagegate/Notepager Pro?

I only monitor about 500 elements but have just upgraded the license to 2000 elements with new devices coming online soon. Previously everything was running on the same server 3.4 Ghz with 8 GB RAM. I am considering a split this time, running the NPM,NCM and Tool Kit on the new server and SQL on the other.

Question: Is this the smartest way or is there a better way? Which would make better use of the new server?

One other thing, this is on a private network. No internet access here.

Any words of wizdom are appreciated.

I think a large key to answering your question would be what kind/how many drives you have on each server.  You didn't mention NTA, but if you plan on getting that at any point, having the proper RAID setup (RAID 1+0 being the best) makes a huge difference.

If both have enough drives, I'd let the newer server be the SQL server and leave the old one as the NPM, NCM, etc.  We did the opposite when buying a new server not realizing in the long run how important the SQL box is in the picture - not to say having a newer polling engine isn't good, I just think the SQL server is more important.   

Just my two cents, if they're even worth that much.
