Node is Up. One or more Interfaces have state: Unknown

Hi,

We have a UCS environment where all our blades are running VMware ESXi 5.5.

The UCS has the correct SNMP settings.

The VMware ESXi install has the correct SNMP settings.

But all of my blades show up in Solarwinds as having interfaces Unknown.

I don't know where to look to solve this. Is the SNMP in UCS, the service profiles, the VMware settings or someplace else?

The issue has been solved. It seemed that a few of the interfaces on a couple of blades were not being managed in Orion. So, the system was showing them as unknown when in fact they were being seen as up. We found the correct interface and checked on every interface which was showing green.

An additional poll now, then an unmanage, and then a manage and my errors went away.

Hi Scott,

Could you Edit one the blades (ESXi server) in Orion and click on Test to confirm that SNMP is still reachable?

If the test is successfull, you'll need to start by looking at interface persistence status. To do that, issue the following command in enable mode:

show snmp mib ifmib ifindex detail

Are the interface index IDs changing by any chance?

Orion can only recognize an interface by its interface id. You would typically see Unknown status for interfaces if the interface no longer exists or if the interface index has changed.

Check interface index persistence and or commit the following: snmp-server ifindex persist.

I actually am quite the noob with Solarwinds. Perhaps you can send me specific directions on how to check if the interfaces are changing.
