Memory Used Radial Gauge showing incorrect memory used

Orion 10 SP1

The Memory used radial gauge show 100% memory used for a few servers, it also shows in Top 10. When I go into the device and check the Disk Volumes, the physical memory is correctly showing only 50-60 used.

What's going on with the gauges?

What type of devices are these? If the vendor doesn't provide the same mibs that orion is looking for out of the box, you may want to build a poller (using the UnDP) that collects the right OID. I've come across a handful of devices that dont present the way Orion expect, but the UnDP can overcome this. You'll probably want to add this resource to top 10, build an alert off of the custom poller, and possible create a custom node view by device type if this is the case.

UPDATE:

I have added another 20 servers and all of them exhibit the same issue. I did figure out it's only Windows 2003 Domain Controllers that have this issue; Windows 2003 Servers show just fine.

I have asked for support from SW, but as this is an evaluation before buying I'm not sure if I'll get it.

This has been a known issues for a while.

Just do a search for "100% memory" and you will see that other people have had the same issue.

We have it happening on our Domino servers. Solarwinds says that it is an IBM issue because Domino is pre-allocating memory.

They claimed that ALL monitoring tools would display the same result, but when we started reviewing other products, we found their claim to be incorrect.

I just checked one of our Domino Servers and it reports the Memory correctly, both in the gauge and the disk volumes. It appears to only be 2003 Domain Controllers in my 10 SP 1 install.

UPDATE:

I checking the servers it appears that we do have some Domain Controllers that are repoting correct memory usage, but only 1 or 2 out of 30ish. As well there is one 2003 regular server showing the issue, so I'm not sure we have isolated it too much.

I also found the disk space utilized numbers were incorrect as well, but I am going to open a new discussion on that one.

Not too impressed with this eval so far.

Final Update before patch - Bug

Yes Engineering got back to me and as some have stated it's the way the processes on the server are checked to see how much memory they use, then tallied and checked against free physical and virtual which results in 100% (or more) used.

They said it will be patch in the next SP or revision, but I'm not so sure. There were a couple of work arounds provided, but I really think they should just present the amount of Physical memory used in the radial graph and mouse-over, I don't care about virtual, unless it's thrashing.

If there is an update I will post it.
