Configuring SMTP for E-Mails

Hi All.

i'm having a challenge configuring alerts to send mail outside my company's domain.

i need those alerts to be sent to e mail address outside my domain, it's successsfully sends mail to my box or any other person in my company, but gives this error when i enter outside email account

" Transaction failed. The server response was: Relay rejected for policy reasons. : System :    at System.Net.Mail.RecipientCommand.CheckResponse(SmtpStatusCode statusCode, String response)

Hi there,

you need to speak to the guy who administers/owns the email server in your organisation. it is likely that it is alowing relay to internal addressesbut not to external addresses.

If it is MS exchange then you will have to update the SMTP connector to allow the ipaddress of your Orion server to relay to external addresses.

Do you look after the email server or is it someone else in the company?

Did you open a case with SolarWinds, i'm facing the same issue.

I'm able to send succefully email using a simple PowerShell command, but when i text the configuration from the main Menu: Admin > Alerts & Reports > Configure Default Send Email Action

, it failed and i have the below error in the ActionsExecution.log

Transaction failed. The server response was: Relay rejected for policy reasons.

PowerShell:

$SmtpServer = "YourSMTPServer"
$FROM = "xxxxxxxxxx"

Send-MailMessage -To "youremailadress" -From $FROM -Subject "Test" -SmtpServer $SmtpServer

I was finally able to resolve my issue, it was caused by the email specify in the destination field.

The Messaging team also allowed my server IP to send email at theit level (don't have more details o what they did but they have to allow my IP)
