Performance Issues with dllhost.exe
mbeard
We are having performance issues with dllhost.exe, No matter what we do it still continues to be a CPU hog
Server Stats:
Windows 2003 SP1
2 Xeon dual core 3.00 Ghz
4 GB Ram
Orion Version 7.8.5 SLX
678 Monitored Nodes, 2429 Interfaces, 716 Disk Volumes
What we have done so far (performance has increased slightly but not much)
1)Disabled Browser Inegration on all accounts
2)Modified the Pooling & Recycling properties of the Solarwinds Orion NPM Com+ objects (Pool Size:5, Lifetime Limit: 5 minutes)
3)Removed all Com+ object and re-ran the Configuration Wizard
As soon as one user opens a page, the CPU utilization spikes between 50 and 100%, when multiple users start hitting the page the utilization stays high
Does anyone know of anything else to try, short of waiting on version 8 to be released and hoping that it works better
Micah

Micah,
It may depend on the configuration of the home page of your Orion website as well. If you monitor the COM object call times you may see which resource on the website is using the most resources. If you reconfigure the home page based on the information gather by looking at the call times, you may be able to reduce the amount of CPU used by the dllhost process.

We've had exactly the same problem.
When all users logged off - things are fine.
Add users - and cpu goes 100% for minutes.
Tried same measures for fix - but to avail.
Hoped this is fixed soon

Micah,
Web performance has been an issue for us as well. We are in the process of building a beefier box to which we can move the web server, but in the meantime we have streamlined our views in order to reduce the load times. The resource on our views that is the biggest CPU hog is the "Node List". For our larger views (such as our "Enterprise" view, which includes all of our monitored devices), we have replaced the "Node List" native resource with a link. That way, if someone really needs to see the list, they can launch the link, but otherwise the view loads in approximately 10 seconds, as opposed to 45 seconds.
Perhaps you can detach resources individually to identify which ones take longer, then rationalize whether they are truly needed, or come up with other ways to streamline the views.
At any rate, hopefully web performance will be a little better in v8.
