What SNMP devices do Orion support?

Is there a list of all devices and softwares supported by Orion?

I need to find if there is support for Oracle, Informix, OSX, Tomcat, Websphere and other stuff.

And is it easy to write a program with SNMP so that Solarwinds can talk to it?

Yes. Orion supports any device that exposes the host resources mib and most Cisco hardware.

Yes and no. In terms of application monitoring Orion will monitor application processes running on a Windows server. This will report up/down status, memory, and CPU utilization.

What do you mean by exposes the host resources mib?

Do you mean that anything that uses snmp can be monitored? But doesn't orion need to have the mib of what it is monitoring, to understand the snmp codes?

I mean any device that has that uses the host resources mib as part of its SNMP implementation.

Yes. However, Orion only has a limited set of mibs that it currently supports. So if you have a Windows server, a Linux/Unix server with NET-SNMP, or a Cisco device you will be able to monitor:
interfaces
CPU
memory
disk volume usage

If you have most other types of devices you will only be able to monitor the interfaces (UP/DOWN, utilization, errors/discards).

NOTE: With the application monitor add on you can also monitor processes/application executables running on Windows and NET-SNMP enabled Unix servers. These are exposed by the host resources mib as well.

Now for my rant: It would be awesome if Orion supported the importing of custom mibs so you could monitor any exposed value for a vendors specific hardware. So, bother SW support about adding custom mib support. I am sure they are working on it but it couldn't hurt to have another customer reminding them to pick up the pace.
