Will Orion run on Windows 2003 Web Server?

Hi,

Is there any difference between running Orion on Windows 2003 and Windows 2003 Web Server?

As far as I can tell from Microsoft's site, there is little difference between them. It seems to be mostly a matter of the web server edition not being able to run as a domain controller, and customers not being allowed to run non-web enabled software on it. I am guessing Orion would qualify as a web application.

Also, does Orion require any form of Active Directory or will it run on a server in "stand alone" mode, be it Windows 2003 or Windows 2003 Web Server?

Yes, Windows 2003 is fully supported by Orion Network Performance Monitor.

There are differences in the way Web sites and COM+ components are managed, but the Orion Configuration Wizard takes care of all the Windows 2003 specifics.

Yes, but I am talking about the special Web Edition of it (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/features/compareeditions.mspx for comparison). If I have my choice between the following server platforms for Orion, which would be the safest, most stabile, and all over "best" choice?

Windows 2000 Server
Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition
Windows 2003 Server Web Edition
