cisco 1200 ap +wireless manag pack

hey all,

i'm testing the wireless management pack. our WLAN is Cisco-only, using 1200 AP's.
What makes me curious :
Under "Wireless Clients" I see only 9 people (=laptops), but if I take a look with "All active Wireless Clients" I can see all laptops (~200). How come ? I don't get it. Anyone got a idea ?

I'd like to know how you got to seeing anything at all. I've got 1200s exclusively (currently 80+) but I don't get ANYTHING on any of the graphs. System Manager gets data alright from the APs regarding traffic and so on, but the WiFi pack simply can't display the WLAN specific data at all

hey lars,

i didn't do anything special when i added the AP's. some data can be read, some is unretrievable. strange behaviour. to me it looks like the management pack isn't really ready to be shipped. it's of no use at all for us since we only use CISCO devices. being unable to rely on the collected data from ORION... we need something else to monitor our WLAN.

The most common problem with the Wireless Management Pack is not selecting the Wireless Access Points. It is important to run the "Wireless Networks" application and select the Wireless Access Points. If you do not select which devices should be polled, then there will be no data in the database.

Also, you should ensure all the wireless interfaces are managed as well. You can do this by right clicking on a node and selected "List Resources"

I did use the "Wireless Networks" application. However, the displayed data is simply wrong. The AP itself shows me zero clients connected, the "all active sessions" view shows me every laptop. strange.

I have the same problem with Cisco 1100 APs. I have an open ticket with support and I have provided them a sample config of one of my APs. Anyone else find a work around for this problem?

Ditto on that problem. I just looked at one of the access points in my network. No information collected. BTW, I have purchased the license for the Wireless Management Pack.

I pull up the Wirless Networks application. I used this to select all my AP's. They have been in Orion for a long time and was monitoring the wireless inferfaces long before Wireless Management Pack came along.

From the Wireless Networks application:
Node - show all my AP's
Status - green for all
Status - node status is UP for all devices
WirelessLastStatPoll - all but one say 12:00 AM the one odd one says 1/1/1900
WirelessPollInterval - 5
Polling Engine Server - Orion

All AP's are Cisco 1210's.

Suggestions?

I have a mix of Cisco 1200 access points I have some 1210, 1230 and 1240 access points. The 1210's and 1230's running the IOS 12.3 or earlier have some minor issues with collecting SNMP data but for the most part work. I added two 1240 access points this week to my network running the 12.3(7)JA2 IOS and the wireless management pack will only collect some interface stats but no wireless stats. Solarwinds support stated that the 1240 AP's do not fully support the ieee802dot11 MIB, Cisco support states that the ieee802dot11 MIB is fully supported.

Is anyone else running the 12.3(7)JA2 IOS, with the wireless management pack?

Hi mrsald,

We are running primarily 1230 access points with 12.3(7)JA2 IOS images. All of my access points are collecting both standard and wireless specific statistics. I have not had any recent issues with Wireless clients not showing up or statistics being either missed or not recorded altogether.

I did have similar issues along with the wireless poller hanging a few months ago. Since I 'upgraded' to the latest available version of the wireless management pack (2 weeks ago) I have had no problems with the poller or with a lack of statistics.

On a side note we are also running wireless HWICs in several of our 2811 routers. These modules are showing up as wireless access points and are providing stats as well.

First, to get any data for the wireless network management pack, you need to make sure that for every AP, the radio interface is being monitored, simply telling it in the wireless add-on to monitor the AP is not enough, if you're not monitoring the "Dot11RadioX" interface(s) you don't see anyone logged into the AP's.

Second, yes, I just upgraded a bunch of AP's to 12.3(7)JA2 IOS (not lightweight mode) and everything is working fine.

I have all wireless interfaces on my AP's monitored. Had it that way long before the Orion Wirless Management Pack was loaded. I even have sub-interfaces monitored on the ones where I'm running multiple VLAN's on one AP. Still nothing.
