On Demand Report on using certain key words

Hiii

We are looking to create an on-demand report based on a particular IP or Name without editing the existing Reports in SolarWinds. When the report is required user could enter teh keyword and it will get the report in a pdf format. Any idea, pls share....

Incorporate a custom property in your report. Change the property values as desired and your report will reflect how custom property is currently populated.

Thank you for your response. However, this i cannot use as a report as it will not be properly formatted. In case there is an option in the report to enter a value and get a report based on that ad-hoc basis would be helpful. That is i will run a report, it will ask me for an entry. Once i give it, the report is generated based on the input.

Is there any options available so..

You could go with a SWQL widget and a search field to it. I am not sure at the moment if you can export a excel from there but it "should" be possible.

the PDF Export has always been a "screenshot" of the webpage so the PDF export of firefox/chrome is the same as always.

If you like your own format, you can use the API in your own queries to build your custom data export.

In all honesty I would have a copy of the report you want and then direct link the report on a home page and then just edit the limitation and run the report each time. Its 2 more click then the method you're after but a hell of a lot less effort then trying cool stuff like swql and getting something to export to PDF.

You can click straight into report edit and the just add the limitation and click then last tab and finish. Just run it after that and away you go. Some times the lest effort solutions can be the best.

However if you do have free time and get HerrDoktor's idea working then let me know. I am all for mooching off of the hard work of others lol

^ I've done this method before and it worked well, just add the custom query widget to a view and whatever node or custom property or whatever the person searches for gets pulled up using the search box on the widget. Print to PDF if you like from there.

Otherwise there is just no native functionality for "on the fly" modifying reports with user input. For cases where the SWQL query still doesn't get something fancy enough for a client I have just spun up SSRS and hooked it into Orion and built report templates there with dynamic filters that the end user could use however they liked. It's free and any company of a decent size typically has some kind of business analyst or similar on staff who spends all day building reports in tools like SSRS/Tableau/PowerBI like that for the company and could crank out Orion stuff if asked.
