Orion and VMware ESX Power Management

I'm trialing Power Management in Vmware Vsphere (ESX 4.0). It works well in that it powers off ESX hosts when there not in use and powers them up when their resouces are needed.

Unfortunately Orion reports the powerdown as a server down which makes sense since the servers is no longer responding to pings and SNMP polls. I know that VMware provide an API to inform monitoring systems that its powering down a server. Is this supported in Orion?

I'm currently running Orion 9.1 SP5 with an upgrade to 9.5 planned in the next few weeks

No, that is not currently supported in Orion. What would you expect to happen. VSphere powers a guest down, would you expect this guest system to have a special state other than down?

For preference: yes it would be nice to have another state eg: 'Energy Saving Mode' perhaps or something along those lines. VMware do claim that monitoring consoles can hook in to there environment and so can be made aware of an ESX host being powered of for energy saving reasons.

I think Solarwinds may be seeing more requests for this as the power saving mode of vSphere (and othere products?) becomes more common.
