I'm looking for people who are running Solarwinds with a shared SQL environment who would be willing to discuss their experiences. If you can help, please email me offline. Thanks in advance.
I was, but the constant input of data was causing issues on a different (customer facing) database having to wait and well... I was told Orion's DB needed to move, I moved it onto a virtual server running 2008 R2 Core with SQL 2008 R2 and it runs great. Let me know if you want any more info.
Thanks for the reply netlogix. Did you have any concerns about enabling CLR on the shared DB and what experiences, if any , did you have with that? Did you ever have any security issues related to it?
I didn't have any issues after enabling it, nor security issues. From what I understand, it just changes the way SQL interprets commands and extends the way you can use stored procedures. I don't think it's any more of a security risk than a stored procedure (if the code is good and clean then that's that).

we also did... we moved to a dedicated machine because support kept complaining even though everytime they analyzed the performance, it was perfectly fine!
however sometimes during running the configuration wizard we had a high spike and other databases on the same server were experiencing problems for a few seconds
