Upgrading to v8.5.1

We are still currently on v8.1 and am looking at upgrading to v8.5.1 as its been around for a while now.

Are there still user out there that are on v8.1?

Will you be upgrading to v8.5.1 or waiting for the next release?

Any advice from those that have upgraded or from those that haven't?

We upgraded to 8.5.0 when it came out due to the issues we were having with the perivious version. It fixed most of our problems. We are going to 8.5.1 next wednesday to fix the other issues.

Issues too many to go into here, but I have been running from the very first version.

Hi Jon,

I upgraded several customers when I was at ASL. This was a mixture of 7.8.5 to 8.5.1 (via 8.1) and also some straight from 8.1.

I only had issues with a couple, but both these were to do with permissions on the server. I also found it with these two that I needed to get .Net v3 from Windows Update instead of letting the Orion installer do it.

We just upgraded from v8.1 to v8.5.1 and it went well, better than I expected. We had broken links on all our custom views but we don't have that many, maybe around 20. This is documented in the Release Notes. The directory changed from /NetPerfMon to /Orion and the viewids were renumbered.

So far, we have discovered some minor (at least at this time) issues that are not service or performance affecting.

1. Report Scheduler is firing automated report but report job is not executing. This seems to be an authentication issue. Still investigating.

2. Error message being reported every 5 min in OrionCustomPollingService log. Case#29291

3. WirelessPollingService error message being reported every 5 min in Windows SolarWinds.Net Event log. Will be opening a case at first opportunity..

Still unresolved (from what I can observe so far) that was suppose to have been fixed in 8.5.1 release...

1. Some Windows 2000 Server nodes reporting false 100% CPU Load.

Our configuration:

1 SLX

1 SLX Poller

1 SLX Hot-Standby

3 Application Monitors

3 Wireless Monitors

The installs went through without any hitches. We noticed SolarWinds has wrapped the SP2 with the 8.5.1 download and into the install process so you don't have to be concerned with downloading and applying ithe SP separately.
