Upgrade from 7.1 to 7.2

I just finished the upgrade - installing over top of 7.1.

Everything looks good and seems to respond faster now.
Loading graphs in the web page and pulling reports from the database seems much snappier.

I am seeing the same thing as others - nodes are now showing up in the warning state much more frequently.
Even got a couple of false SMS alerts several hours after the upgrade. I can't remember the last time I had a false
alert, so something must have changed in the polling or fast polling code. I have a trouble ticket in with Solarwinds
for this issue.

Hi NG,

why did you install 7.2 on top of 7.1 instead of the deinstall/reinstall procedure?

I will upgrade from 7.1 to 7.2 this week and I would like to know which procedure is the best.

Actually there is a newer version 7.2.2 out now which should resolve the
issue of missed polls and nodes going into warning state, as well as false alerts.
I haven't installed it (7.2.2) yet, but as for the install procedure, just read the release notes.
If it doesn't mention anything about un-installing the previous version, then
I just install right over top. It didn't even require a re-boot. I just shut down the polling and web services before running the install wizard.

You can install over the previous version, it is actually recomended, and as to the false downs it was fixed in 7.2.2. I cant wait for the version 7 of the toolsets.

I just get stuck after moving my Orion server and it's dedicated SQL-machine to a new location, to my understanding only the IP address including gateway, subnet mask etc has changed - but nothing works as before: there's an sql error displayed on the website, so nobody has access anymore. The support recommended the new 7.2.2 for our SL2000 but when doing the installation the webbackup part hangs and the NPM service will not start.
I tested to:
- remove the website, create it from scratch
- use another database, local and remote
- uninstall the old version, install 7.2.2
- find a way to go, but failed

Can anybody please help ?

There is a Beta Release of the Orion NPM SLX Version 7.3 at:

ftp.solarwinds.net/.../SolarWinds-NetPerfMon-V7-SLX.exe

Version 7.3 includes changes that should minimize the false positives that you are seeing.

When upgrading, do you use the full download ver w/ sql, NPM and docs or just the 71mb ver w/ npm and docs only?

If you change the ip address and/or name of a sql server there are some commands that need to be run against the database to make it aware of the change.
