MEMORY Over 100%
dimonet
Has anyone else experienced a problem with servers both UNIX and Windows that have more than 2 GIGs of memory reporting like 500% memory usage? Is there anything that can be done to correct this problem easily? Is this a limitation of SNMP or another problem all together?
Thanks,
Dimo

Anybody got any ideas about unix boxes though? I'm evaluating Orion at the moment and our Compaq es40 running Tru-64 unix 5.1A is showing 1386% memory used!

If anyone has a solution for Windows 2003 server please send it along. Right now I have a server posting at 616% memory usage.
Thanks,
Shaun

Yeap, got the same issue to on W2003 and on W2000 although I have the latest SP´s.
I also see that some Interfaces generate >100% of utilization

Percent Memory Utilization within Orion NPM is based on real memory AND swap space. If a device has 100MB of memory and is using 90MB, then the percent memory used will be reported as 90%. If it is using 100MB, then percent memory used will be reported as 100%. However, if the device is using 100MB of memory (all of it) AND 50MB of swap space, then the percent memory used will be reported as 150%.

I have a 2003 server with 4 Gigs of memory showing 3.7 Gigs available in Orion. My physical memory usage is 2.1 Gigs and my swap file is 2.0 Gigs. That is 111% of the 3.7 Gigs showing available. Orion is showing 135% utilization. Any ideas about the discrepencies in available memory or utilization.

I too have same kind of issues on my Linux, Sun and Windows machines. Regardless of OS, something needs to be fixed and I do not know what exactly, but there is a problem with the MIBs reporting this information

Agree, I have the same problem with W2KSP4. 250% mem used.
With so many people having the same problem, Solawinds should do something!

Gday,
My setup is a fairly small example with SLX100 installed. We monitor a few Lotus Domino Servers here and memory usage is always >100%. Strange really. I think Lotus support SNMP and have thought that maybe Microsoft and Lotus were fighting when talking to ORION.

Well I'll be jiggered... thishas been bugging me for ages... I have loads of win2k servers all SP4 which are perfect in Solarwinds..
except for... you got it.. the two systems running Domino (Lotus Notes) v6.x.... these report CPU and disk perfectly but the RAM is reported at 250% all the time....
Solarwinds if this really is just Lotus Notes system related any chance of a patch to fix in the next release??

We too have seen this issue on our Win2k SP4 servers that are running Domino, in our case it is v5.xx. Our primary Domino server is always above 200% memory utilization. Which does not make sense because if you review the numbers in Orion the amount of physical memory used, plus the amount of swap used does not equal the total memory usage reported by Orion. For example, currently this box is being reported in Orion as using 8.3Gb or 217% memory. Orion also reports that this server has 3.8Gb of physical memory, which is 100% used, and that currently 1.8Gb of swap is used. That should be a total of 5.6Gb or approximately 147% usage. So is the swap usage being reported incorrectly, or is the total memory used being calculated wrong? This box does have SP4 on it and I have seen this happen on other servers not running Domino as well....

Does anybody have the possibility to check these two things out:
What's the memory values in the database for the "failing" servers?
What does the server report via snmp? (Use a snmp-browser to check the server directly)
If we know this we can point on the function that is "lying" or calculating wrong. Is it microsoft or Solarwinds...?
I don't have a failing system at hand now so I can't check myself. Trying to help a customer over phone.

anyone found a resolution to the domino on win2k issues with memory reporting???.... if Don is around do you have any comments?? [8)]
The win2k servers running this app are the only one that I cannot get proper stats on at the moment......
Note: created copy of one of the units in lab with dif name... same issue.. removed Domino and rebooted... bang normal reporting...
Def an issue with domino screwing up the MIB table within win2k.. but why??...

weird thing is that I have drilled into the mib table for the servers in question using a MIB Walker tool and can find the memory values and they seem to be right....
Does anyone know what mib tree and id Solarwinds uses in Win2k as I am testing the HP Proliant specific ones...... I guess they are generic and these values may be be wrong
