Odd Transmit Discards - almost 3 billion?

I continue to see an odd thing where about once a day (not always at the same time), a port on a Juniper ISG2000 "belches" out almost 3 billion transmit errors (it's always the same number - 2,885,686,000).

Nothing shows on the device, according to the networking crew that manages these devices, and it's not like it accumulates to this number, it's just 0, 0, 0, 2.885 billion, 0, 0, when you look at the graphs. This is the number Orion gets and reports on..

Anyone else see this problem? Nothing is really happening our of the ordinary during the time these errors come up... so I'm just curious if this has happened to others.

Yes we see the same thing on our ISG2000

I am seeing the same thing on an HP laser printer. 1-3 times a day it shows all these errors. The printer is working fine, and nothing else shows these errors. It is the only device that shows this, and it is very random as to times when it occurs. Very wierd.

Very strange. I would suggest, if this is happening rather frequently, that you monitor your SNMP traffic on your Orion server to just that ISG with an analyzer like Wireshark. This will tell you whether the problem is being seen with the SNMP reply sent by the ISG or it is something with Orion. My guess is that the ISG has some sort of bug that is reporting bad data through SNMP, but counters in the device do not increment. I've personally seen some weird stuff with lower model Netscreens when interacting specifically with Solarwinds Orion.

Strange, though... that others are seeing the same numbers come up.

I'll load a sniffer to see if I get a return from the device of 3billion, but something tells me this is a bug of some sort. Too strange that we'd all come up with the same sort of number.

This number just suddenly appears, and is not a cumulative number.
