When is Solarwinds ever going to fix their Database Manager to not require SA rights???!!!
This is an old post, we originally came out with Database Manager when SQL Management Studio was not free. Now it is free, so why not use that instead?
Bruce,
That feature is tentatively scheduled for the next release, but I can't promise it'll get in. The reason we haven't prioritized it is that the native SQL tools are always available as a workaround, and they don't require sa privs.
To give you some perspective - SolarWinds built the database manager back when most folks were using MSDE, which didn't come with tools. But now SQL Express is free and it has free database tools.
Each release is a pie (mmm...pie....) and everything we do is something else we don't do. That's not to say we won't fix this issue with DBM, but I want to share why it's not as high a priority as some other things.
Cheers,
Denny
Has this feature fix been released? I cannot connect to our shared SQL DB from DBMgr.
