Solarwinds Monitoring

Hi Guys

We are planning to implement solarwinds monitoring solution for our network and I need to give management a plan to tell why solarwinds is the preferred solution and solution design for about 3000 objects and how many servers we need and server configurations. Can anyone help me out in this ?

In addition to what Jeff said, on your DB system you will probably want to run Raid 10 to help with the high disk IO. With any monitoring application disk IO is always the thing you need to keep in mind.

As far as getting management on board with SolarWinds, I can't say for sure what will work for you but I can tell you what I did. I created a matrix in Excel listing all of our requirements in the first column. Each column after that represented one of the many products that I reviewed for our new NMS system. I then rated each product against each of my requirements. By doing this I was able to provide solid evidence of why SolarWinds was the best product for us to go with.

You could probably do that with just two servers. One to for the Orion server and the other for the DB. I would dedicated your DB server only to Orion for the best performance.
