Kenneth,
The "Active Alerts" resource displays alerts generated by the alerting engine, not the syslog server. Furthermore, I'm not sure what version of Orion you are running, but prior to v8, the "Active Alerts" resource only displayed alerts generated by the "basic" alerting engine, and not the "advanced" alerting engine.
This may have changed in v8, but I do not know, as we have not yet upgraded. Due to the nature of the info contained in a syslog message, the alerting function of the syslog server is really not well suited to be a full-grown alerting engine; it's more of an FYI. You will notice that there is no reset action as well. This same principal also applies to the trap receiver.
Having said that, if you really want to view only the events of interest in a resource on your summary views, you could create a custom SQL report using "Report Writer" and make that report visible on the view in question.
Naturally, you can also have a resource that shows all syslog messages over a period of time, and also a resource showing a summary of recent messages, but it sounds like you're only interested in the ones that trigger the alerts. Of course, you can also include a "Syslog" menu bar item and view the messages from there. Does that help? ~ Vic
Thanks for your answer - I have upgrade to version 8.1 - And the Syslog server does stil not have a reset function, only a trigger function.
I will look into the other things u mentioned
Thanks for your help
