w3wp.exe High memory utilization

we have solarwinds install that monitors about 2700 interfaces. About once a day i have to restart "World Wide Web Pulshing Server" because it's memory utilization gets very high. The box has 4Gb of RAM and quad core opteron. My question is how do i troubleshoot this issue. Is this just a case of box being asked to monitor too many interfaces or is it something not properly setup in either IIS or solarwinds? The only potentially relevent error i see in SolarWinds.net is "Unable to create DB connection sleeping 30 seconds"

What version of Orion NPM are you running?

We were experiencing the same on our 2 primary servers. Updating to NPM 9.5 SP4 seems to have helped, but it still uses higher resources then I care for. EOC is another thing.. its down/offline more then its up.

9.5 SP4 was intended to address a memory issue related to w3wp.exe. Are you still having utilization issues? Have you opened a ticket for your EOC issue?

we are running npm 9.5 sp3.

I will try upgrade to sp4 as you've suggested.

No I have not opened a ticket on the w3wp.exe for our NPM, it works for the most part. We have other more pressing issues opened up that need to be addressed with NPM. I will re-visit the issue with w3wp.exe once we get the other issues resolved.

EOC I have a ticket open, but its for performance overall.. we are not having very good luck getting it ready to deploy.

Hi,

Note that there are two issues with memory utilization in the w3wp process. The one fixed in 9.5 SP4 was related to the Network Atlas Maps, but there is another known memory leak with having Reports on views and each refresh causing the memory to go up.

If you have reports on any of your views then you may be experiencing the latter. You can either temporarily remove the reports from your views or have your IIS recycle more frequently.

We have a fix for the reports leak that we are running through our testing process.
