Need to upgrade several SW apps!!

I have the following SW applications and want to upgrade them to the latest versions, but I want to verify the proper order to do it.

Current Target

Core 2010.1.0 2011.1.3

NPM10.0.0 10.2

NTA 3.7 3.8

APM 3.5 4.2

IPAM 1.7 2.0

As near as I can tell, I should upgrade the NPM first, which will bring the Core to the current version. After that, I can upgrade the NTA, APM and IPAM in any order I choose.

Is that correct? Thanks.

I'm working on an update to the explicit procedure, but the Knowledge Base article, "How to upgrade SolarWinds Orion products" (http://knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/kb/questions/1888/), should give you a good idea of the order you need to follow.

That's always the order I've done it. Once NPM is up to date the rest are really easy. Just make sure you backup your database first and take a snapshot of your VM if you're using one. Never know

After a quick look, the only concern I can see here, is that IPAM 1.7 is not explicitly compatible with NPM 10.2. You should be able to use the following order to get around that limitation:

Upgrade IPAM to 1.7.1
Upgrade NPM to 10.2.1
Upgrade NTA to 3.8
Upgrade APM to 4.2

I looked at the KB and it seems to indicate that IPAM 1.7 is compatible with NPM 10.0.0/Core 2010.1.0. There is a check mark there.

Am I reading that wrong?

No, you are reading it correctly. My concern was that it seems not to be compatible with NPM 10.2.1 / Core 2011.2.1, though IPAM 1.7.1 is.

Clear as mud, I am sure.

Ok. Thinking about it though, it would still be OK to upgrade IPAM al lthe way to 2.0 first since that will upgrade the Core at the same time. Right?

Or, do I have to do this:

1. IPAM - 1.7 to 1.7.1

2. NPM - 10.0.0 to 10.2.1

3. IPAM1.7.1 to 2.0

4. then NTA and APM in any order
