One of my folks asked if I could add a node to Orion for statistical gathering. They gave me the IP address of the node, a simple switch, and I added it. Lo and behold, that node already existed but there was a name associated with it since it was discovered during my initial sweeps. Apparently SNMP had been setup correctly on this device since that's where the name came from.
This isn't the only duplication problem I have, my layer-3 switches seem to get discovered over and over again whenever I scan a network that might terminate on one of the layer-3 devices. All of this is causing me a lot of grief since I have to winnow out duplicates frequently. Essentially I don't think this is correct behavior especially for the stand-alone, single IP addres simple switch. I was adding that switch through the Web interface if that matters.
Thanks for any and all advise.
