Architecture Question

Imagine if you will two powerful new servers with gobs of RAM. You need to run Network Performance Monitor, Network Configuration Manager, NetFlow Traffic Analyzer and Application Performance Monitor. Both servers are on the same IP subnet. Which architecture give better performance:

1. Two completely independent installations, with each server running all SolarWinds applications and each server running its own instance of SQL Server.

2. One server runs all SolarWinds applications, and the other runs SQL server only.

What size of licenses and how many flows/source interfaces for Netflow? Typically it is better to run Orion on one server and SQL on a separate server

We own two SL-2000 NPM licenses, two NetFlow for SL-2000 licenses, and two DL-1000 NCM licenses. We'll be watching maybe twenty interfaces with NetFlow.

So you have 2 of everything, what is the reasoning for this? High Availability or Disaster recovery or for a lab? Might be best to set you up with an SE to chat and come up with a recommendation.

SQL and all the modules on the same server is not supported so, option 2.

Candidly, we didn't think it through. We reasoned that, for security reasons, we wanted separate Orion instances for our DMZ and for our inside network. I've come to believe this is a seriously flawed approach: 1. I don't want any Orion server in the DMZ, I want it safe on our inside network; 2. I don't want to look at two separate Orion instances for fault and performance information; 3. I like the idea of one server running Orion in the 32 bit mode, with a dedicated SQL server running in the 64 bit mode.

I run SLX NPM,NCM,APM,NTA,VoIP, and SQL on a single machine and it kicks ass.

So if I have a problem support wont help me?
