Receiving Node down events every 10-20 minutes

We are receiving Node Down events every 10-20 minutes. We then receive notification that they are responding again and the cycle repeats. This has been occurring since the Nodes were added. I'm new to SolarWinds and I'm sure we don't have some setting correct. Any suggestions?

Hello, assuming the nodes aren't down in fact, your network might experience random peaks in the response time (e.g. wirelessly connected devices, long routes, etc...). You can for example try to increase the ICMP timeout (when ICMP packet doesn't return until this time, node is supposed to be down) to override the peaks.But please don't increase it toooo much (4s max). Too long time might block the polling jobs. The setting you'll find in Settings -> Polling Settings (Orion/Admin/PollingSettings.aspx)

I have increased the Polling Settings for ICMP timeout and SNMP timeout to 4000 ms. I'm still seeing this behavior but as before it is only effecting our Firewall node type.

Are there any issues within the firewalls where an ACL needs to be updated to allow the traffic? How fast are you polling the firewalls? Is it the default 120 seconds? When you see a report that it's down, have you gone onto the SolarWinds server and run a ping to see if those fail as well? What version of SolarWinds are you running?

Ok, for the 3rd time, I'm going to try and reply to this message. There are no ACLs blocking the traffic. The polling interval is 600 seconds. The ping response time is 1 to 3.5 ms. The version of Solarwinds is NPM 11.0. The nodes recover and then the cycle repeats either every 10 or 20 minutes depending on the node. I don't know why.

Verify that you are in fact polling with ICMP and not SNMP. I've seen similar behavior if a device is inadvertently configured to pull via SNMP.
