Can't Add Node

Hi!

Has anyone manage to add a node - linux server??? we can't add it to be monitored by NPM. Is a linux server OS supported to be monitored by NPM? Or maybe we just missed something on the configuration of SNMP on the server? Can someone lend us some guidelines on how to enable snmp on a linux server???

We monitor lots of Linux servers with our Orion NPM & APM, it is supported. You need to install and configure net-snmp on the Linux systems to get performance information and you will likey have to configure iptables on the Linux system to allow Orion to talk to it. Aside from that, everyting works relatively well.

What specific error or problem are you seeing when you try and add a node?

When we tried to do an snmpwalk on the linux server it works. But if we do snmpwalk on the vmware server where we installed the npm and nta. It resulted to several lines stating that it can't see some modules... etc. Our server admin said that the snmp configuration on the linux server is working fine because it has no error when we do the snmp walk.

I am a bit unclear on what you are saying here.

Are you indicating that your Orion system is installed as a VM on VMWare? If so that shouldn't make a difference, our Orion polling engines are VM's as well.

When you did the snmpwalk on the Linux system, did you do it from your Orion system or did you do it from the local Linux system that you want to monitor? Also, is the system you are trying to monitor Linux or VMWare?

Hi!

Yes. Orion is installed on VMWare. We did an snmpwalk on the Orion server and on the local Linux system.

The system we want to monitor is the Linux server.
