NPM and Antivirus

Question

Hi all,

Wanted to ask if people use antivirus on there NPM installations and if so if they have any problems with any of them.

Is the advice to install antivirus. Has anyone has issues with MacAffee and NPM?

I All,

Just went through a very painful experiance with a customer running a 3-vmware server setup with an extra polling engine, an orion SLX + NCM + NetFlow and SQL on a 3rd vmware box. The system was extremely (useless) slow and the sql server folks told me that SolarWinds was creating the problems... After stopping all SolarWinds services and taking a closer look at the SQL server, it turned out that the task manager revield a lot of other processes taking up CPU ressources. When we killed the Trend Micro AV system, the CPU utilization dropped to a low (normal) level. I have come across this problem on a couple of other occations, where the Trend Micro AV system was slowing down the Orion server as well. SO PLEASE BE WARNED if the customer is using an AV system on any of the SolarWinds related servers - including the SQL server. I know that the use of SQL on vmware is far from recommended, but this seems to be a corporate policy for the customer so it's difficult to change.

We use Trend Micro's Officescan on ours... no issues with it... been using it for over a year.

Hi,

I Just had a case where NOD32 – IMON (Internet Monitor) service was preventing the job scheduler to listen on a local named pipe.As a result it was not possible to open the UnDP Tool, to browse some part of the website and APM was not working at all.Disabling the service did not help. We had to uninstall the NOD32 IMON Service (letting the other NOD32 services installed) then to reinstall Orion.NOD32 did not show any log explaining why it was blocking the job scheduler.I do not remember of any issue due to MacAffee AV.R,
