How Solarwinds Orion NPM communicates with Active Directory

Hello,

How does Solarwinds Orion Network Performance Monitor communicate with Active Directory?  Does it communicate with the Domain Controller's IP address or server name?  I have been trying to find the answer consulting with co-workers, manuals, servers/databases, and the Solarwinds thwack forums but have been unable to find any clues.

The Server name change will not affect the Orion Server. The Orion AD Authentication runs exactly like when you physically login to the Orion Server.

Hello Danielle,

We are making a change to our Domain Controllers and the server names will be altered.  My concern is that if the server names for the DCs are changed, will that affect how Solarwinds and Active Directory communicate.  So far, after doing some research and reading about the AD Domain Services, I don't believe it would, but I am not sure.

Have you taken a look at the Active Directory Domain Services on this Microsoft page?  I think you might find some answers there.
