Solarwinds Orion Installation / MS SQL Dedicated Server

Hi Guys .... We have been using Solarwinds for our company for many years now. Its been running on Windows Server 2008 with SQL Express.

I'm now planning to move away from that old system and Install Solarwinds on a dedicated Windows Server 2016 . Where the Microsoft SQL Server

will be installed on its own dedicated server as well.

Can I get any help / consultation on how to make the Solarwinds Server talk to the Microsoft SQL Server.

Currently I have both the Windows Server 2016 UP/Running in a MS-Domain environment.

Hi,

You wil have to follow the migration guide which is available in Success center or the product page... and u can involve you DB expert to assist and provide guidance.

Correct, I would follow these steps to a T and you should be good to go.

There will be multiple threads related to this.. so would suggest to review and device which one suits best to you..

If u dont want to retain your old data then its very simple....

We're not retaining any data from the old server. Don't want to get into much complications.

Further we would keep to old server -- in case we need old data for audit purpose.

I just successfully installed Microsoft SQL Server 2017 with the SSMS(SQL Server Management Studio)

Getting my muscle flexed little here

Planning to learn up how to create a few database for test purpose.

Then , will go to the other server and install the Orion Installation package.

From what I seen, during the Orion Installation, I could connect to the SQL Server itself right?

Lets see. I heard for Netflow the installation process could differ?

Do I need to create a different Database for Netflow , so does the Orion connect to the DB-Server and create on its own?

I'm doing my own test run here as well ... will keep you guys posted.
