Basic Alerts going away?

One of my co-workers told me that basic alerts will be going away soon. PLEASE tell me this isn't true. Some of my big switches have hundreds of interfaces while I'm only alerting on 20 or 30 important ones. I can't imagine all the work it woul;d take to write SQL queries to weed out the interfaces I don't want to look at. Advanced alerts for my standardized remote sites would be fine but there's no way I can write queries for all the oddball instances at my main office.

Eventually, we plan to retire basic alerts, but that statement was made in the context of trying to figure out what the Advanced Alerts were missing.  We need to make advanced a superset of basic alerts before we retire the latter.

 

Couldn't you do what you're talking about with advanced alerts by assigning custom properties to your devices and writing a simple rule that applied to only those items with a particular value of the custom property?

That said, one option would be to add a simple mode to the advanced alerts that allows the user to pick a single property to monitor and then check off devices to which the alert applies, a la the basic alert engine.
