Please define custom poller alert variables!

I want to crfeate an alert that will notify me when the temperature exceeds a certain value on select nodes on my network.

However, I am not sure what alert trigger variable to use for the current calue of the temperature poller.

When I am configuring this, or any other alert about a custom poller, how do I know whether to use Total, Rate, Status, or Numeric Status?

Can you give some examples of how each might be used?

You will need to consult the actual MIB definition to answer these questions. The Orion Universal Device Poller configuration utility can give you whatever description was initially provided when the OID was defined.

To view this OID description:

1. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Universal Device Poller.
2. If you have already defined the poller, locate it in the All Defined Pollers pane, and then click it.
3. If you have not defined the poller yet, click New Universal Device Poller, and then either enter the OID in the OID field, or click Browse MIB Tree to browse the Orion MIB tree for the OID you want to poll.
4. The Description field should provide the information you need.
5. If the information you need is not available in the Description field, you will need to contact the manufacturer of the device to which the OID you want to poll is assigned.
