Advanced Alerts???

How advanced are they?
I am trying to use dependency and not having any luck.
Example:
Alert is picking up any status down with node name starting with an “S” (Server), but if the router is down for the same site I would like to know within the alert.
Servers cover about 50 different sites / subnets.
Maybe with macros
I really don’t want to create an alert for each site subnet.

Can this be done?
