Rename and reIP production NPM server

I have a NPM server that we threw together for testing. When we went from testing to production we kept the IP address and Server name that was put in.

how can i change the server name and the IP address of the server? Can it be done without loosing any history?

I would suggest installing orion cleanly on the new server with the new ip. Then you can connect the new server to your existing database.

Once you have that done, you will need to update your nodes to be polled by the new engine by updating the nodes table in the database. In your database do "Select * form engines" you should see Engine ID and your ServerName and IP

Then WITH ALL YOUR POLLERS STOPPED you can run this query

Update Nodes set EngineID=(new id#) where EngineID=(old id#)

We recently performed the same. We were on Windows 2008 with SQL Express all on the same box. We migrated the db unto a separate SQL 2005 server and migrated the NPM to another server. The only issue we had was with the license and that was because we registered the license before we changed the server name to the original name. We just corrected this thru support. I think your best course of action is to do the following:

If you have support, open a case with SolarWinds before you commence. We did this and referred us to following two documents

Migrate your db then install NPM on the new server and have it connect to the new database.

Rename and re-IP your OLD server as needed

Rename and re-IP your NEW server

Re-register your license against the new server

This isn't quite what I want to do, let me try to explaine it better.

I have a NMP server1 IP x.x.x.x. I want to use the same server and rename it from server 1 to server 2 and change the IP from x.x.x.x to y.y.y.y.

I don't want to change physical computers just the name and IP. the server went from testing to production and i would like the production to follow our IP and Naming convention.

where does your Orion DB reside? on the same server??

i believe you will have to park you license.. change the IP and name of the server.. run the configuration wizard again, point to the db and as another poster said before, change the engine data in the orion db..

the Orion NPM migration document is really helpful. I am going to move off to a new server and new ip and that document helped alot. what you are trying to do isnt much different..
