Using Agent to Scan Subnet

Hi there,

Trying out Orion NPM and have a questions. I have several remote networks that have devices with not gateways specified or that do not have access to the network that Orion lives on. Is there a way to install agents onto these networks that will perform discovery and polling and relay that info back to Orion?

I've figured out how to install the agent on these networks but I cannot figure out how to get the agent to do a discovery and to add these nodes that have no visibility to the Orion network.

Any thoughts?

The SolarWinds agents are able to only monitor the server they're installed against. Think of it as a different polling protocol (vs SNMP for Linux or vs WMI for Windows servers).

If you need to monitor remote networks where your application server does not have access to (or is simply not routed) you would require either an Additional Polling Engine (APE) or Remote Office Poller (ROP) which is the slim version of an APE. Both come at an additional cost and depends on the number of devices/elements you want to monitor on the additional network.

I would suggest to call you account manager and seek for more info and pricing or find a way to route your application server (a.k.a. main polling engine) on the foreign networks.
