Hello there,
I'm starting writing some custom report through Report Writer and I was wondering which sample interval is used.
Does it change depending on the time frame used? Can it be customized?
Thanks in advance,
Nick
Nick,
It depends on what type of report you are writing. Orion uses two methods for collecting data. For up/down status, Orion uses icmp polls, which by default are every 2 minutes. For statistical data like interface utilization, CPU and memory utilization, etc., Orion uses snmp polls. By default, the snmp polling for nodes is every 10 minutes, for interfaces it's every 9 minutes and for volumes it's every 15 minutes. You can change the interval for the polls, but it's a global change for everything in your Orion inventory. The settings can be found in the Polling Settings can be accessed on the Orion Website Administration page in the Settings section.
Hope this helps!
Hi,
Great thanks for this answer. So for interface bandwidth report, it should be 15 minutes by default (that is what you call volumes), right?
Regards,
No, interface bandwidth would be 9 minutes by default. Node statistics are for devices like routers and switches. Node statistics are things like CPU and memory utilization. The default interface statistics are for the nodes' interfaces. That covers items such as bandwidth utilization, interface drops and errors, etc. Volume statistics are for storage volumes, like disk partitions and cover space usage. Hopefully that helps clear up the definitions for you. If not let me know, I'll give it another shot!
