License Limit for Solar Winds Database?
sgtwright
Solar Winds has stopped collecting data and I am getting an error "CREATE/ALTER DATABASE failed because the resulting cumulative database size would exceed your licensed limit of 2048 MB per database." in my SQL Database. I have already checked the SQL Manager and it is set to automatically grow. Do I have a limit on the amount of data I can collect with Solar Winds?
Thanks,
SgtWright

If you are using the MSDE then yes 2048 is about as high as you can go. We started seeing issues even earlier maybe aroun 1700 or so. We had to put our DB on a SQL Server. Since then all is good. You may want to try compacting your db also. That may give you some time to figure out waht to do.

We are already using SQL Server. I have only had SolarWinds installed for a couple of weeks and the database is already full. Not much tweaking has been performed on the collection statistics side.

Yes, MSDE does limit you to 2GB database size. You can use the free SQL Server 2005 Express Edition from Microsoft and that ups the limit to 4GB, or you can move your database to a SQL Server.
For help moving your database to a new server see

Thanks for the responses so far, but I just want to restate that I am already using SQL 2000. SolarWinds shows that the Database Engine is Microsoft SQL Server 2000. I have tried compacting the database and re-running the configuration wizard which has had no affect. Again, I am not using MSDE, but MS SQL Server 2000. I have been only using Orion NPM for 2 weeks now and am at a stand still. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,

Disregard this post. In performing my own checking (vs. having my server admin guy check it) we are using MSDE! For those who read this later, I did perform an upgrade of MSDE to SQL 2000 and all is now well. Thanks for the posts!
Thanks,
SgtWright
