Suggestion on Solarwinds install on system drive

Hi All,

We have come across a situation wherein Solarwinds was installed with evaluation version with DB on different server. Now the decision is made to use this setup itself for Prod

The servers built in this setup have only 1 disk which is a system drive and Solarwinds is also pointing to the same.. we really dont have a chance to re-install or migrate to new instance.

So what i would like to know is, will it be safe to keep using the system drive? I know its not recommended but left with no options....

If you aren't left with an option we will have to go with same system drive. I have read several posts wrt performance issues etc but truly speaking i did work on projects where solarwinds was installed on C:\, I really don't see a major hit on our application unless we keep an eye on it.

1. You should have enough disk space left on it, hence keep track of your drive space or set a few monitors which does it for us.

2. Before patching is scheduled on the server ask the platform team to keep you informed, most issues crop up post patching due to compatibility of those patches, this might as well eat up our drive space in certain cases (always make sure you have sufficient drive space - I am as well assuming that it would be a dedicated server for solarwinds and no other applications would be running on them).

Our default is always have a second. Patching, page file log files. Best to do it now or add a d move page file at bare minimum

Yes your assumption is correct.. this is going to be dedicated setup with DB on separate server with same configuration i mentioned earlier... later it might be joined in to HA but thats still under discussion....

Thanks for the note on the patching, i will inform the team to keep me posted when they perform the activity....

are u referring to moving the page file to a different drive?

Yes if your keeping the software on the same drive as the os

Got it.. I have thought about this already...once they migrate it to new

location I will inform them to first do this by creating another drive and

move the pagefile to this one..
