Is Orion capable on handling this? Will it be in the future??
No. And yes, but I don't have a firm date on when. Are you with the government? We're trying to get an idea of how quickly ipv6 is being adopted.
We run IPv6 dual-stack in our network and need IPv6 capability in Orion. We are not a government customer, but we do provide IPv6 services to government agencies. June 2008 is the deadline for US government agencies to have their backbones IPv6-capable. Don't forget about all the non-US network providers who are already deploying v6-dominant networks.
Without sounding like too much of a jerk, it's a bad mindset to have, to wait for customers to demand IPv6. The biggest problem with deployment of v6 is not that people don't want it, but because software and CPE/SOHO hardware vendors are completely ignoring it because everyone believes consumer demand will drive the implementation. Sorry, no...this is something that vendors are going to have to take the responsibility of helping drive by adding the functionality into their products early on.
We will definitely provide this functionality, if only because government (and gov't contractors) are a significant customer base, but we have to balance that feature along with all other features in terms of timing.
