Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
service alerting

Has there been any discussion on monitoring services for state transitions? Or maybe a running process?

I know, but I don't want to have to plug in Kiwi or another syslog server. The account I work on is very tight on security, and every time we decide to implement another piece of software, we have to go through an extensive security sweep, and approval process.
It would just be nice to have something simple collect information into the event log portion, and then I could fire off an email when things go wrong.

kempj18,
There is an Orion Application Monitor available that will show historical statistics for services/processes. This is not publicly available at this time, but can be requested via development@solarwinds.net. It can log when services/processes restart, but cannot generate alerts at this time.

If this application logs when services/processes restart - where does it do so? I don't see any log files, nor do they seem to show up in the event viewer.
Thanks.

I stand corrected, messages do show up in the event viewer.
