Syslog questions

I have read several postings regarding Syslogs, and just cant get a good answer to my question. I have asked this question before and got a good answer, but I want to know if its changed.

Syslog has been around for a long time now, and you would think it would be easier then it is. Basically, all I want to do is forward syslog messages from my Orion syslog box to a syslog collector in Network edition 9 and still maintain the original ID tag of where the message came from. Currently, I have only been able to find one syslog backend to do this and we all know that as Kiwi. Has Orion incorporated this type of feature into its new ver 8.5? Can anyone tell me a way in which I can do this?

One other thing, is it possible to decrease the amount of time it takes for the Syslog on the Web Interface to be refreshed every 5 minutes vs every minute. Is the change global, or does it only affect the Syslog portion.?

Although 8.5 doesn't do it, it's something we're going to add. I haven't gotten a sizing on it from Dev yet, so I don't know which version it'll fit into.

Kiwisyslog can forward syslog messages in two different ways.

An inserted tag in the syslog message (i.e. Original Address=xx.xx.xx.xx (which a receiving Kiwisyslog can extract)
Spoofing of a UDP message from the origin address

There is no origin address specified in the RFC (hence the issue here) We use Kiwisyslog to forward messages to Orion - but cannot use the second option as the devices are behind firewalls.

I have previously requested that Orion support the 'Original Address' type tag that Kiwi inserts (?PageIndex=3).

That is good to know dclecompte, thanks for the heads up. I will send this info out to my management community, now we can stop looking at other syslog apps. Be sure to convey this at you next staff meeting that the clients would really like to have this function, as Im sure a lot of them are probally using systems like Kiwi. ;-)
