We currently use two products to monitor our network, Intermapper for status and Solarwinds for performace. Seeing how this is a pretty big pain we would like to consoldate down to one product. In examing Solarwinds further I have a few questions that I can not seem to find answers for.
1. Does Solarwinds understand relationships? If I have a router with 10 switches and the router goes down, can I easily supress 10 messages about a switch outage and just get one about the router. It would appear that this is done via configuring things in the alert, but that seems cumbersome as I would have to build alerts per level of relationship. (That was a mild guess so excuse me if I am way out in left field)
2. Kind of related to question 1. I see that I can unmanage a node until a given time but that only works if there is someone to do that when a maintenance window starts. How does everyone deal with maintenance windows? Tying this back to question 1, how does that tie into relationships? I do not want to kill someones SLA because a swtich was down and not the server.
3. It seems there is no easy way to do things against multiple nodes. If I want to add a custom mib monitor to several devices I have to do it to each individually. Is that correct?
Thanks!!
