Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Alerting on Interface Errors
Jeff_Salisbury
Orion Network Performance Monitor 7.3 (Engine 7.2.133). We are trying to monitor router serial interfaces for receive and transmit errors. We have been succesful in configuring an alert, but we have two issues with the alert:
- The alert will never clear until at least an hour after the spike in errors, even if the errors were a momentary glitch in the circuit. When you view the interface error graphs it is obvious that the polling engine in collecting data much more often, so why do we have to wait for an hour to clear the alert?
- Our alert email action uses "Alert: Receive Errors for ${FullName} this hour is ${OutErrorsThisHour}" to try to send the number of errors that were happening that triggered the alert. The OutErrorsThisHour macro appears to always resolve to zero. For example, one I just got says "Alert: Receive Errors for p2p-UK-CPT/DE/FR-Serial1/0 · point to point UK to Compton this hour is 0 errors".
Is there a way to configure this to something more usable such as errors over a 5 minute period?
Jeff
