Can I upgrade my web servers to 9.0 before my pollers?

I currently have an 8.5.1 setup, with 4 pollers and a single web server. This coming Thursday afternoon I'm going to be upgrading the infrastructure to 9.0 SP1.

I currently have a pair of web servers for my 8.5 implementation, that are not currently in production (they were a work in progress, but the upgrade to V9 is a good excuse to put them in production ) No one accesses these web servers except me.

Would I cause breakage if I were to update the standalone web servers to version 9.0 before I upgrade the pollers? Since no one uses the web servers right now, I'm not concerned if the web sites throw errors or don't function 100%, I'm just trying to get as much done beforehand as I can, and if I won't break the database or the production web server (which is on one of the pollers right now) then so much the better.

Running the 9.0 configuration wizard on the Additional websites will cause the DB schema to be updated to 9.0, which would cause problems with the rest of your 8.5 infrastructure. If you only do the install, then you should be okay, but those webservers will not be usable...

It wouldn't hurt anything, but they won't work until you get the database upgraded to 9.0.

Hmmm... dueling developers

I'll play it safe and wait. They aren't in production now anyway, so if I take an extra day to get them up and running it shouldn't be a big deal.

Definitely not dueling developers. Casey is the developer; I'm the product manager, so on technical issues, he's always right.
