Replacing main poller with new hardware box

Question

We're looking to replace our main poller with a new beefier hardware box.  The old IP will be re-assigned to the new box.  (The current main poller runs web, NPM, NetFlow).  The SQL database is on a separate server.  We're not able to find any documentation on how to proceed with this.  Is it as simple as shutting down the current poller and installing the relevant components on the new box and then migrating the license over? Sounds a little too easy ;)

Just a couple of things,

With the way licensing works, you may have to release them before moving them.

Make sure you back up and copy over any schedules (TASK Scheduler) you may have on the old server.

Personally, I always setup a private network between the OLD and NEW servers.

That way, the OLD Server's SQL connection can be severed, but the NEW server can still talk to the OLD server for anything you may have forgotten.

Aside from that, if your Server is standalone and not part of the domain and you are using local accounts for authentication, you'll have to redo any related accounts.

(Stored SID information in the DB will no longer match.)

As for a better way, I could only suggest one if you had a secondary poller.

We have a situation where we need to do a very similar transition and I have a few questions of procedure as well as technique for someone to comment on.

We will be installing new hardware therefore to minimize down time I have planned the following to be our course of action unless SW can provide me with reasoning as to why not do it this way, or if in fact there is a better method.

* Install new instance of Orion Main Poller on new      machine. Including APM, VoIP, and Wireless (we are running 9.1)
* Run configuration wizard and connect to production      database. 
* Stop all pollers and change IP/DNS for new box and old      box (swapping address and server names)
* Move all other Reports/Maps/etc to new server from old      server
* Update Report Schemas
* Import Website data from Old server export

My assumption is that since the tables will still be correct with the IP/Server Name that no database changes or poller assignments will need to be changed. Correct?

Does having to SLX (main pollers) on your network at the same time and pointed to the same database cause issues?

Will custom resources that I have created be carried over with web site import/export? Or do they need to be manually moved?

Are there any "worry items" that I am missing?

I am looking for the most efficient and smallest impact method to migrate from an old sever to a new one. I would like to do as much as I can without turning off the services or polling until I do the actual switch.

If anyone has any better ideas or has done such a move please let me know.
