Export Node/Interface Data From Live 9.1 SP4 install to 9.5 Eval?

Hey Guys,

We are currently running Orion 9.1 SP4 on a production server and it has been working great. I recently started a mapping project to help our helpdesk team troubleshoot network issues before they give us a call. With the announcement of 9.5, the network mapping has been completely redone and I'm really excited to start using it before with upgrade our live install.

I've setup a temp VM that has the 9.5 eval installed (Express Install) and was wondering if there was an easy way to export our data from 9.1 (Nodes, Interfaces, etc) to the temp 9.5 eval? Our live setup is running a SQL DB on a separate server and the eval version is running a local SQL Express install. Could I just copy the database and import it, or would I have to go about it a different way?

Sorry to bump, but I'm to the point where I'm going to just replicate the db and start pulling tables one by one. Anybody have any ideas?

I guess you would use the database manager and do a database backup.

Then import this file into your new database.

If you are using sql express you will need sql express studio to import I think.

The other thread allowed me to export the data, now I'm having issues importing it (because I'm using SQL Express). I can't even get the DB Manager to connect. I've started a new post. Thanks again bshopp!

You can't use the database with manager using sql express. Must use studio to back up.

Here was my fix to get the nodes into NPM with express:

I have now managed to get all my nodes imported back into NPM.

I logged a support call and Solarwinds were quick on the case.

My fix was to:

Thank you for cotnacting SolarWinds. First, stop all Orion services. From there go to Start > Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features and open the Monitor Polling Engines utility. Go to Servers > poller load balancing. Click on the first node, scroll to the end, hold shift, and click on the last node. Then go to Polling Engines > Move Selected Nodes to, and choose the server.

I did only have one node but the nodes didn't seem to be associated with the server so this fixed it.
