NPM database grow too fast.

Hi everyone,

i found the DB is growing so fast, over 100G data so far, i checked the SQL 2005 report and found a table size was too big,

dbo.SysLog 166551411 98386992 KB 41122440 KB 53217000 KB

is it a normal size of this table? my NPM and APM are mornitoring over 100 network devices and server. anyone can help me out would be appreciated.

 It looks like you have too much information being sent via syslog by your devices. I would suggest you tune the Severity levels for the syslog output on your devices to Warning or above.

 If you have a definite need for level 5 (notice) or above, you will have to look at the data retention settings in the Syslog application within Orion

 Launch the Syslog view on the server and go to Server Settings. On the first tab you have a keep data for an amount of days option. Reduce this.

 Alternatively you could use the Filter rules and alerts to look for message type/patterns etc. and in the action section use the 'Discard message' option.
