Orion NPM Recommended Hardware

I am going to be installing Orion NPM 9.5 (SL250), NTA (SL250), NCM (DL100) and VOIP (SL100) monitoring tools. I am able to find the minimum hardware requirements but have not been able to find the recommended hardware requirements. I would like to get a recommendation for hardware requirements for the size of the network/number of devices I am going to be monitoring. Anyone deployed Orion in a network size similar to this?

Based on what we've seen, this configuration should handle your load. It may be more than you need, but NetFlow is very resource-intensive, so it couldn't hurt.

·       3GHz quad-core processor

·       4 GB RAM

·       SQL Server on a separate physical server

It would be good to see some formal recommendations made (maybe they exist, but could be presented in an easier format) to show the growth path of an orion system.

Make it additive - so you could go to a web page (?) select the components you want to use, give it the number of nodes you want to poll, polling intervals, etc - and have it spit out a "recommended architecture". It would get you in the ballpark anyway rather than wondering "I just added this module, is it time to move SQL off box" or "Do I need more RAM?"

Just a thought.

Terrific idea, and something we have been investigating further, but it is easier said than done There are a ton of different variables and items that could change this.
