2 pollers and 2 db

I would like to now if someone has developed a fault tollerant scenario with 2 polling. if the link between the poller and the db goes down you will loose monitoring. I think a solution is to install a db on each poller, and you replication or clusteing. But How to merge data? Would like to listen your feedback or your experience?
